I’m loving this book and continue to learn so much about trees and the natural world around us. Something that I think tends to get lost in the overwhelm of everyday life with technology and our focus on work, family, responsibilities, etc.
I have a confession to make though. At the beginning of this year I made a decision that I would only pick the first book of the year. And I would reserve the right to pick the book for September (National Emergency Preparedness Month). The other four books of the year would be open to a vote.
I did not vote for this book. In fact I wasn’t even sure I wanted to read it, but it was in the lineup of books and fit our environmental theme (we read at least one book per year that is personal development and one that is tied to environmental issues). When the majority of Healthy Readers Book Club members picked this book my thought was, “Well, majority wins, so I’ll go along with it.” But I wasn’t thrilled.
What a surprise! I had no idea how much I would enjoy this book. And what I would get out of it. It’s written in a beautiful, gentle style; easy to read yet packed with information and though provoking facts and observations. I’m so grateful we’re reading this book. If you aren’t part of the HRBC I want to encourage you to read this one anyway.
